Violence against women has been
an age old maxim. No doubt, we live in a democratic country, still eradication
of gender discrimination is the need of the hour. Keeping this hot issue in
mind, the Faculty of Languages organized a poster exhibition on gender
discrimination under UGC nominated Gender Champion Club. The students from all
the streams exhibited their views and ideas on gender sensitizing issues like
female foeticide, female infanticide, female harassment and domestic violence
as some of the burning issues prevalent in our Indian society. S Gurdeep Singh,
the Pro- Chancellor of the University, was over whelmed to see the hard
endeavors been put on the posters on violence against women. He is hopeful that
in the times to come our GU students would act as a strong pillar of support to
eradicate this routed evil from our society. Dr. Disha Khanna, head of Faculty
of Languages thanked the worthy Pro-Chancellor for inspiring the students to
unleash their latent feelings related to gender discrimination.

Getting Started: A Research Initiative at GNA University
GNA
University organized an FDP on “Getting
Started: Research: An
Introduction” October 24, 2015. Dr. Govinder Flora, Dean Academics,
highlighted the need of research in teaching and learning process. He apprised
the faculty members as how they can start with research in their respective
areas of interest. He believed that one should take research to get solution to
a problem, generation of new knowledge and explanation of new phenomenon.
He also explained various types of research
viz. fundamental, applied, primary and secondary, that the research process
should be deeply taken into consideration bypassing Plagiarism asit leads to
withdrawal, reprimand and ineligibility. He emphasized that the best way to
begin in the field of research is to undertake some reading. He also threw
light on how to seek grants for research. Dr. Prem Kumar, Vice- Chancellor, GNA
University emphasized that learning at GU is project oriented and teaching
is research oriented by highlighting some of his real life experiences. S
Gurdeep Singh, Pro Chancellor strongly announced that GNA University is always
ready to fund young researchers in unleashing their research talent.

Faculty /Staff Buiding Connect With Gna Group
The
University faculty and staff enjoyed an industrial ordeal at GNA Duraparts on
October 21, 2015. The facult and staff got a live chance to gain hands on
experience of making the GNA products. The success story of GNA Group was left
an indelible impression on the minds of the faculty and staff through the
presentation by the HR of the GNA Group.
The sole motto of the visit was to
build a strong connect with the organization with whom the faculty and staff is
working was strongly established. The CEO of the GNA Group and Pro-Chancellor
of the GNA University, S Gurdeep Singh was overwhelmed in building an emotional
tie and strong bondage among his employees. The faculty and staff extended
their heartfelt gratitude for making them feel proud about the organization
they are working and connected for.
Mind Your Language: English Speaking Day at GNA University
Communication
in English language is the need of the hour to be successful at the global
front. Looking into the import of English Speaking, the Faculty of Languages at
GNA University observed “Mind Your Language: English Speaking Day on October
16, 2015. The faculty and staff participated with full interest. The event was
conducted in the form of an activity in which the faculty and staff who bags
the maximum slips at the end of the day will be declared the winner. Mr
Varinder Rana from Faculty of
Hospitality and Ms Priyasha from the IT staff
won accolades by securing the maximum number of slips.
The Vice- Chancellor, Dr
Prem Kumar expressed, “Great project! I am happy to see the enthusiasm among
the GNA members to participate in a worthwhile activity”. Dr Disha Khanna, Head
of Faculty of Languages thanked the faculty and staff for being a great
participant and asserted the GNA family to carry on the same enthusiasm of
conversing in English among their students as well. S Gurdeep Singh, the
Pro-Chancellor of the University felt overwhelmed and said, “It is a wonderful
endeavor. I want my GNA family to be well- conversant, so as to be the pioneer
among the global market”.

Student presentation on latest technologies, Group discussion and Problem
solving, Research and presentations, Interview skills and finding new events in
local institutions, Creating blogs & FCS student newsletter & Best
practices to design a website. Phoenix FCS organized Open IT
quiz, Movie on Google office, Motivational movie (What is life).The
students really witnessed the activities with great enthusiasm and wished to
have more in the times to come.

Faculty
of Business Studies organized an industrial visit to GNA DURAPARTS LTD.
MEHTIANA on 1th October, 2015 for BBA Semester I. The industry is
equipped with world-class resources and expertise to manufacture a wide range
of gear, gear boxes and allied products for a variety of automobile
applications. The main objective behind the visit was to make students aware
about the various manufacturing components and processes. It provided students
with an exposure to current work practices and with an opportunity to learn
practically through interaction. It was an informative visit.

Industrial visit to Living India News Channel, Mohali
Students of B.Sc.3rd Semester and
M.Sc. 1st Semester visited Living India News Channel, Mohali on October 16,
2015. Students got a live chance to learn about the studio setup and work flow
in the news channel. They have learned about news studio setup, news anchoring,
news and video editing, broadcasting the signals and lots of other things
related to the news channel industry. Students got the hands on training in all
the technical fields and are hopeful for many more such visits.

Business Studies organized an industrial visit to RAIL COACH FACTORY,
KAPURTHALA on 10th October,
2015 for MBA Semester I. The main objective behind the visit was to make
students aware about the various activities of designing, manufacturing, HR
policies and after sales services. It provided students with an exposure to
current work practices and with an opportunity to learn practically through
interaction, working methods and employment practices. It was an informative

Faculty of Computational Science organized a Guest Lecture on "Big Data Analytics and Hadoop" at GNA University (8-10-2015) by Dr. Ashutosh Mishra , Assistant Professor, Thapar University, Patiala. He holds a strong practical knowledge-how of Big Data. He is PhD from IIT-BHU with 10 years of academic and industry experience. He shared his views on architecture of Hadoop and terminologies of Big Data. He also interacted with all the faculty members of FCS regarding latest technology trends in Big Data and related fields.

Research Project of CII-FACE in association with NABARD
Students from MBA give assistance in research project under taken by
CII-FACE in association with NABARD. The objective of it is to study the Custom
Hiring Centers (CHC) for farm machinery in different states of India (providing
farm machinery on rent to farmers). They learnt from this
research that what type of machinery and services are provided by these
societies to the farmers. These societies are very helpful and useful for the
farmers. Farmers who cannot buy all type of machinery for the farming, because
it is very costly. So they are taking machinery on less amount of rent from the
societies according to their needs. The machinery includes tractor, trolley, rotavator,
tiller, cultivator, drill, etc. The rent is fixed by the society and less from
other private society. Students were visited different district of Punjab
(Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Jalandhar).In each district they covered 2-3 societies
of CHC where they meet with the president of the society and the members of the
society. At each society their target is to meet 10-15 farmers and fill the
questioners. They asked the questions to the farmers and fill the questioner.
The questions are like: how much land they have, which services and machinery
they are taking from the society and why, what difficulties they are facing
while taking the services, what suggestions they want to give etc.
